    Food Lion Shines Up Apples for Anti-Hunger Effort

    Fall campaign benefits local food banks

    Food Lion is now selling specially marked Food Lion Feeds bagged apples in its stores. The grocer’s third annual bagged apple campaign will help provide more than 1 million meals to needy families in local communities across its 10-state footprint.

    For every bag sold through Oct. 4, or while supplies last, Food Lion Feeds will donate six meals to area food banks, in partnership with Feeding America. The bags will retail for $2.99 each throughout the campaign. The apple program was first introduced in 2014.

    The specially marked bagged apples are the second of three in-store Food Lion Feeds campaigns this year. Through the sale of Food Lion Feeds reusable bags earlier in 2016, 1 million meals went to local food banks. The specially marked apples are anticipated to provide 1 million-plus meals.

    The in-store campaigns are helping Food Lion Feeds to reach its goal of providing 500 million meals by the end of 2020 to at-risk families in communities served by its stores.

    Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion has more than 1,000 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, and employs more than 65,000 associates. The grocer is a company of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Amsterdam-based Royal Ahold Delhaize Group.
