Tops Markets LLC is one of the recipients of the 2016 Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America award. The grocer accepted the honor last month before 3,000 guests from more than 100 countries at the eighth annual Employer Healthcare & Benefits Congress (EHBC), in Washington, D.C.
“At Tops, we take great pride in ensuring a healthy working environment for all of our employees,” said Gail Marchese, manager, benefits and wellness for Williamsville, N.Y.-based Tops. “We encourage involvement in company-wide fitness challenges, health screenings, and provide numerous resources for our associates so that they can actively take charge of their health and well-being.”

Healthiest Employers, based in Indianapolis, is the nation’s leading worksite wellness recognition program, with participation from more than 18,000 employers representing 60 million employees.
Tops – which placed 41st in the ranking and had the distriction of being the sole food retailer on the list – was evaluated for the award according to a 1-100 metric examining six key elements of workplace wellness: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, annual planning, communications and marketing, programming and interventions, and reporting and analysis.
The annual conference for the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-based Corporate Health & Wellness Association, the EHBC is the largest employer conference in the world focused on wellness in the workplace. The next congress will take place in Los Angeles, Oct. 2-4, 2017.
Tops operates 172 supermarkets, with five additional run by franchisees under the Tops banner. The grocer employs more than 16,000 associates in New York, northern Pennsylvania, western Vermont and north central Massachusetts.
