Ohio Grocer Switches from Giant Eagle to Shop 'N Save

NEWTON FALLS, OHIO - Former Giant Eagle owner/operator Eleanor Spicko, whose family has been part of the business community here for 45 years, has signed on with Supervalu to join the more than 70 Shop 'N Save stores that operate within Eastern Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Commenting on her plans to convert to Shop 'n Save, Spicko, who with her late husband Edward opened their first store in 1961, said the flexibility and options offered by Shop 'n Save will result in better service and more competitive prices.

"The Shop 'n Save philosophy of being 'just right' is a perfect fit for our family as independent owners, and for our customers of the Newton Falls region," she said. "We are going to maintain the high reputation we have always had in the community, while offering our customers more in the way of service."

Spicko, along with her daughters Linda, Susan and Patty Roland, who operated their Ridge Road store previously as a Giant Eagle, plans to maintain the amenities her customers have become accustomed to over the years, including a U.S. Bank branch, dry cleaning services, and the Newton Falls Family Pharmacy, operated by Dan Yocum, which has a long and dependable history with local customers.

Spiko's store will close this Saturday evening, Nov. 3, to allow for the conversion and will reopen on Monday, November 5 under the Shop 'n Save banner. Some rearranging of products will take place during the transition, but Spiko said customers should experience no major inconveniences.
