Overall Design: New Construction, Over 50,000 Square Feet

Honorable Mention: Harmons Station Park, Farmington, Utah

Designer: Decorworx

Conveniently located in the Station Park Shopping Center, Harmons’ Farmington, Utah location is the 14th of Harmon’s grocery stores. The presentation of the 69,000-square-foot space couples Harmons’ signature values – people, quality food and great selection – with a careful study of the community in which it’s located.

To achieve a warm and inviting atmosphere, the storefront features red brick offset by glazing light to provide a natural aesthetic to the building’s entrance as customers arrive. The design adopts a modern look, clad in bold colors, Harmons’ signature iconography, large paint designs and floral elements that together communicate the grocer’s strong and direct message. The fanciful artwork adds a distinctive touch and differentiates Harmons from its competitors.

Departments are positioned at the perimeter of the store, with the general merchandise located centrally. The store’s interior features a full-service bakery and deli, meat and seafood departments, as well as more unique features, including a barista dispensing fresh coffee and a mezzanine that houses a state-of-the-art cooking school.

Stylish chalkboards – updated by Harmons’ in-store artist – effect a local, casual feel, while also magnifying the bakery, deli, produce and café areas, and keep customers up to date on Harmons’ calendar of events and cooking classes.

Terry Harmon, the grocery chain’s late owner, viewed customers as an important part of the grocer’s business model, and he believed that each shopper should feel valued and pampered. “We are in the people business. We just happen to sell groceries,” he used to say.

Harmon’s original motto still rings true today.
