Pathmark Opens First In-store Health Clinic

CARTERET, N.J. -- Pathmark Stores, Inc. earlier this month opened an in-store health clinic, at a location in North Bergen, N.J., the first of what could be up to 12 facilities at Pathmark stores.

The grocer has a license agreement with Chester, N.J.-based MiniMedCare, PA to place medical care clinics in stores throughout its trade area. A second unit is scheduled to open in a store in the Ironbound section of Newark, N.J.

The North Bergen Pathmark clinic, which opened Oct. 12, as well as all the other in-store MiniMedCare clinics, will be staffed by qualified nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

When the full rollout is completed, up to 12 MiniMedCare facilities will be operating in Pathmark locations.

MiniMedCare clinics are designed to treat patients for common ailments, and don't require an appointment.

"At Pathmark we are always looking for new ways to better serve our customers and the community," said the grocer's co-president and c.m.o., Ken Martindale, in a statement. "Our partnership with MiniMedCare is a reflection of the confidence we have in the physicians who run the program and the system they have in place that ensures people will receive proper care for common afflictions."

Pathmark operates 140 stores in the New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia metropolitan areas.
