PBH Offers ‘Social’ Way to Boost Fruit, Veggie Consumption

New Half-Your-Plate Social Media Marketing Toolkit is now online

The Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) is offering the Half-Your-Plate Social Media Marketing toolkit on its website, www.PBHFoundation.org. The toolkit’s aim is to help members of the fruit and vegetable industry, educators, and public health professionals reinforce the dietary recommendation to fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables via social messaging. Other contents include sample Facebook posts and tweets for Twitter that can be used in social media outreach efforts.

“After seeing PBH’s success with Twitter and Facebook, many donors and supporters of PBH requested a toolkit of materials they could use in their own social media outreach,” says Elizabeth Pivonka, president and CEO of Hockessin, Del.-based PBH. “I encourage everyone to review the Half-Your-Plate Toolkit and incorporate some or all of the materials into their own social media conversations. Growers, processors, shippers, retailers, health care providers, educators -- everyone can plan and conduct fun, interactive social media conversations using these toolkit materials as online conversation starters.”

Pivonka additionally recommends following the ongoing "Fruits & Veggies — More Matters" maketing program on Facebook or Twitter and subscribing to the “PBH Direct!” e-newsletter to get the latest news on efforts to spread the plate-filling message in support of USDA’s recently introduced ChooseMyPlate icon. PBH will continue to add relevant resources to the PBH Foundation and Fruits & Veggies — More Matters websites, as well as the nutrition education catalog, over the next few months.

To receive a CD of the new toolkit materials in the mail, contact PBH administrative assistant Janet Skibicki at [email protected].
