PBH Updating Consumer Web Site with Video

WILMINGTON, Del. -- The Produce for Better Health Foundation's (PBH) consumer Web site, www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org, launched in March of this year, is implementing changes including streaming video resources that will provide more ways for donors and licensees to get involved and consumers to interact and get educated.

"We're planning new additions to the consumer Web site that are designed to attract more visitors and keep them on the site longer to ensure the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters message reaches an even wider audience," noted PBH president and c.e.o. Elizabeth Pivonka in a statement. "Video streaming is one exciting new feature that will provide consumers with "how to" tips on quickly preparing meals rich in fruits and vegetables."

Rolling out in early 2008, the new Video Center will teach consumers about fruits and vegetables that may be unfamiliar to them. Other videos will show how to check for ripeness, describe proper storage methods, and demonstrate how to prepare recipes, among other educational topics. To boost their visibility, the videos will be promoted regularly on the Web site's home page and in PBH's biweekly e-mail to subscribers. Donors and licensees interested in sponsoring a video-streaming segment should contact PBH v.p. of development Claudia Wenzing.

Recent tweaks include Insider's Viewpoint, a new feature contributed by supermarket retailers that provides tips and information on getting families to eat more fruits and vegetables. New columns will be posted every two weeks through the end of 2007, and then weekly in 2008. Contributors to the column so far are Karen Buch, corporate dietitian at Weis Markets; Jacqueline Gomes, corporate dietitian at Pathmark; Andrea Astrachan, v.p. consumer affairs at Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover; and Roseanne Toroian, Schnuck Markets' food editor and information specialist.

Future contributors will come from Albertsons, Big Y, Brookshire, Cub, Farm Fresh, Jewel, Lowe's, Niemann, Pathmark, SaveMart, Shaw's, ShopRite, Stop & Shop, United, Wal-Mart, and Weis, the organization said. Retailers interested in submitting a column for Insider's Viewpoint should contact PBH senior executive of retail marketing Bryant Wynes.

Another new section, New in Your Supermarket, spotlights PBH Donors' new products that can help consumers eat more fruits and vegetables by making consumption easier, quicker, or more convenient. For more information about the New in Your Supermarket section, or to submit a new product, contact PBH marketing and communications assistant Jill LeBrasseur.

PBH is a nonprofit organization with the mission of achieving increased daily consumption of fruits and vegetables by leveraging private industry and public-sector resources, influencing policy makers, motivating key consumer influencers, and promoting fruits and vegetables directly to consumers.
