PG Seeks 2013 Store Design Contest Entries

Applications are now being accepted for Progressive Grocer’s fourth annual Store Design Contest, which recognizes supermarkets from the country that set the standard in overall excellence with innovative design concepts that are engendering higher sales and happier customers.

Contract design firms and in-house design teams are invited to submit store projects – inclusive of new construction and major remodels – that were completed and open for business from February 2012 through March 2013.

PG will showcase the new slate of Store Design Contest winners in its July 2013 issue, which will be expanded this year to include virtual store tours and online photo galleries on Progressivegrocer.com.

“We are adding a new dimension to our Store Design Contest with video store tours, which will enable PG readers to view on-demand virtual walk-throughs while casting the spotlight on design teams’ savvy and flair with floor plans, décor and aesthetics; creative use of space; and keen eyes for new ways to enhance the customer experience,” noted Meg Major, PG editorial director.

Please note: While videos are not required to enter PG’s 2013 Store Design Contest, they are strongly encouraged, not only to help judges accurately assess entries, but also to enable store design teams to showcase their excellence via 360-degree views of winning concept stores.

Winners, runners-up and honorable mentions will be recognized in five budget categories, providing retailers of all sizes an opportunity to throw their hats into PG’s Store Design Contest ring.

Contract design firms and in-house design teams can submit a maximum of up to two (2) entries per budget category.

Five budget categories – including for new ground-up construction and store remodeling projects ranging from modest to unlimited – give operators of every shape and size a chance to be recognized in the following classes:

  • Best Overall Store Design (new ground-up construction, under 50,000 square feet)
  • Best Overall Store Design (new ground-up construction, over 50,000 square feet)
  • Best Low-cost Remodel (less than $3 million)
  • Best Mid-budget Remodel ($3 million to $6 million)
  • "Sky’s the Limit Remodel (more than $6 million)

Construction of eligible store designs and remodels must have been completed between February 2012 and March 2013.

There is no entry fee. All winners will be notified by PG in June 2013; entries lacking all specified criteria will be disqualified.
