Piggly Wiggly Vet Joins RJO Produce Marketing

FRESNO, Calif. -- RJO Produce Marketing here has tapped Scott Zeier, a 30-year retail produce veteran, as its new v.p.

Zeier, a longtime executive with Piggly Wiggly stores in the Midwest, will be based in Wisconsin in his new post. He will be responsible for administering RJO's retail service programs, including category management services, merchandising programs, and coordination of plans between retailers and growers.

"Hiring Scott is a move that strengthens our approach to serving retailers," noted RJO president John O'Rourke in a statement. "His depth of knowledge and experience with day-to-day retail operations gives us a significant advantage in understanding our retail customers' needs."

Zeier began his retail produce career in 1976 with Schultz Sav-O stores in Wisconsin, where he became a produce supervisor. When the company began buying other retailers and expanding, Zeier was promoted to director of produce operations for Fresh Brands, the parent company of Schultz Sav-O that also operates Piggly Wiggly stores in the Midwest.

In 1995 he was promoted to v.p. of produce operations, and in 2003 he became v.p. of perishables for Fresh Brands. In that role he was responsible for all of the company's perishables operations, including produce, floral, meat, and deli.

Zeier developed Piggly Wiggly's "Pampered to Perfection" program, along with other successful retail produce programs.

Founded in 1993, RJO Produce Marketing offers comprehensive services such as on-ground representation, shipping-point inspection, market analysis, and category management for key perishable commodities.
