Prepared Food Trends: Market Street Prepped for Bigger Breakfast Biz

In a bid to help shoppers get their days off to a balanced, healthy start and maximize consumers’ growing interest in quality breakfast fare, Lubbock, Texas-based United Super Market’s six upscale Market Street stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area are offering an eye-opening “Living Well Favorites” breakfast menu in their prepared foods departments.

Market Street’s health and wellness marketing manager Alicia Brown explains: “The Living Well menu provides breakfast favorites all under 300 calories and 10 grams of fat,” with each menu item required to meet specified criteria for calories, saturated fat, trans fat and sodium. The breakfast menu rollout that began late last year was “to provide a simple and nutritious solution to help our guests to eat the most important meal of the day,” adds Brown.

Among the menu’s selections are Living Well Burritos featuring a 100 percent whole grain tortilla, Egg Beaters and turkey sausage; a Homemade Granola Bar providing over 10 grains, three types of nuts and three fruits; and, available at the departments’ salad bars, yogurt and oatmeal bars stocked with several varieties and toppings. What’s more, nutritional info is prominently featured for all menu items.
