Price Chopper Doubles Fuel AdvantEdge Requirements

10-cent-per-gallon fuel discount earned for every $100 spent on groceries

Price Chopper Supermarkets is doubling the amount customers need to spend on groceries before receiving benefits from the “Fuel AdvantEdge” program, according to a published report. Starting May 13, customers will earn a 10-cent-per-gallon fuel discount at Sunoco gas stations for every $100 they spend on groceries, rather than every $50 they spend using their Price Chopper AdvantEdge cards.

“As much as customers tell us they like Fuel AdvantEdge, they like saving money directly on their food bill even more,” company spokeswoman Mona Golub told The Business Review. “We’ve turned down the volume on Fuel AdvantEdge so we can turn up the value on food pricing.”

Price Chopper customers have saved more than $250 million since the program debuted in 2007, according Neil Golub, executive chairman of the board. Golub added that Fuel AdvantEdge is “the longest-running and most successful promotion” the company has ever run.

On May 13, Price Chopper will enact a new savings program offering four-, eight- and 12-week-long deals on more than 3,000 items. Coupon offers and other price breaks will also increase.

Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper operates 128 stores in six states.
