Price Chopper to Hold Gluten-free Food Festival

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Price Chopper here said it is holding a free gluten-free food festival to cater to the growing numbers of shoppers with digestive systems sensitive to or intolerant of products containing the grain protein gluten.

Price Chopper has been promoting the event, planned for Monday, Oct. 22 at the Century House in Latham, N.Y., to celiac support groups and gastroenterologists. The chain has also spread the word via in-store signage and direct contact with customers who have communicated with the regional retailer through its Healthy U Connection hotline and Call Center, wanting to know about celiac disease and gluten-free foods.

"We have significantly increased our offering of gluten-free foods in many of our stores in an effort to improve the shopping experience for those with celiac disease," said Maureen Murphy, Price Chopper's manager of consumer services and trends.

The event will feature the chain's senior corporate nutritionist, Ellie Wilson, and also Elizabeth Barbone, author of 'Easy Gluten-Free Baking,' who will share baking tips and recipes.
