Price Chopper Promotes 7

In a further implementation of its succession plan, Schenectady N.Y.-based Golub Corp./Price Chopper has made seven senior management-level promotions.

Jerel T. “Jerry” Golub has become president and COO, reporting to CEO and chairman of the board Neil Golub. Jerry had been EVP and COO since February 2008. Earlier, he was EVP of sales and merchandising and VP of marketing, in addition to holding a number of other positions in both merchandising and finance during his 27-year career. In his new role, he will have direct oversight for administration, supply chain, and real rstate and construction.

Joe Kelley is now EVP, reporting to Jerry Golub. Kelley had been VP, sales and merchandising since February 2008. His many other previous positions in the stores, operations and merchandising areas of the company include VP, merchandising and VP, perishables. Before joining Price Chopper, Kelley was the EVP for Adams Super Food Stores, spent 10 years at Purity Supreme in Boston working in store operations and was a store manager for A&P. In his new position, Kelley will have responsibility for sales, merchandising, marketing and store operations.

David Golub is now VP of administration, reporting to Jerry Golub. David had been VP, store operations since May 2006. Before that, he was a regional VP, zone director, private label category manager, produce/GM specialist and store manager. He will now have direct authority over human resources, risk management and continuous improvement.

Russell Zwanka is now VP, sales, merchandising and marketing, reporting to Kelley. His most recent position was VP of merchandising. Before joining Price Chopper, he was EVP, procurement and marketing at the Northwest Co. In his new position, he will handle marketing, merchandising, corporate brands, pharmacy operations and corporate pricing, and will become a member of the senior management committee.

Mike Davidson is now VP, operations, reporting to Kelley. His most recent position was regional VP, operations. Before joining the company, he was VP, operations with Marsh Supermarkets and VP, operations and merchandising with Tops Markets, LLC. In his new role, Davidson will have responsibility for store operations and enterprise workforce management, and become a member of the senior management committee.

Mark Chandler is now VP, supply chain, reporting to Jerry Golub. He will assume responsibility for the distribution/transportation area. Before coming to Price Chopper in 2005, Chandler was the CPG industry director for Kurt Salmon Associates. He began his career with Exxon and worked in various areas of that company’s retail organization, including retail operations management, pricing and distribution. As VP, supply chain, Chandler will oversee distribution and transportation, procurement, store ordering systems and inventory management.

Bob Doyle is now VP, distribution, reporting to Chandler. Since joining Price Chopper in 1976, Doyle has held various store operations, human resources and transportation roles, and his most recent position was VP, warehousing. In his new role, Doyle will handle warehousing, transportation and distribution services, and will also become a member of the senior management committee.

Additionally, senior management committee member and SVP, distribution/transportation Ron Cellupica is retiring after 36 years at Price Chopper. During his tenure at the company, Cellupica held positions in retail operations, human resources and distribution/warehousing.
