Price Chopper Said Offering Printer Cartridge Refills
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- In an eco-friendly move, Price Chopper has reportedly contracted with Glens Falls, N.Y.-based iFill Inkjets to refill printer cartridges for customers.
Price Choppers already has the program in 26 stores in six states, at the stores' photo departments.
IFill owner Mark Tremont told the Bennington, Vt. Banner that over 300 million used ink cartridges are thrown away each year. "Over time this will put a dent in the landfills," he said of the program.
He added that the program refills a cartridge for half the price of purchasing a new one, cuts down on waste, and is convenient for customers because they can have it done while they shop.
Tremont trained the Price Chopper associates working in the program, and keeps them updated with information on new cartridges and tools. He also provides phone assistance in case of problems.
Price Chopper community and public relations manager Barbara Page told the newspaper that the retailer debuted the feature in select stores in April, but has since expanded to its current number of stores.
"We're trying to go green as much as we can," she said. "Every opportunity we have, we try to do something with the environment. It's something we're always looking for."
Other earth-friendly initiatives at Price Chopper include a program permitting shoppers to by reusable grocery bags, which also rolled out in April.
