Price Chopper Shuffles Merchandising Execs

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper Supermarkets/Golub Corp. here has made the following executive appointments:

Joe Kelley has been promoted from v.p. of perishables merchandising to v.p. of merchandising, and will report directly to s.v.p. of sales and merchandising Jerry Golub. Kelley will oversee perishables, nonperishables, private label, and store setup for the Northeast regional chain.

He replaces Tom Robbins, who left Price Chopper for a position with another company.

Kelley previously worked for Price Chopper for many years, but then left to accept the position of e.v.p. of Adams Supermarkets, before ultimately returning to Price Chopper.

Mark Brown has been promoted from v.p. of bakery operations to v.p. of perishables, and will report directly to Kelley. Brown will be responsible for the sales and profitability of the produce, meat, seafood, deli, foodservivce, bakery, and floral departments at the grocer.

Brown succeeds John McGraw, who left for a position with another company

Arriving at Price Chopper in 2003, Brown previously served as bakery director for First National Supermarkets and worked for 11 years in store operations for Wakefern Food Corp.

Dan Koch has been promoted from senior category manager/bakery to director of bakery operations, and will report directly to Brown, whom he succeeds. Koch will handle bakery merchandising, sales, and profits for Price Chopper.

Prior to joining the retailer, Koch served as director of bakery/deli/food service at Fresh Brands, regional operations director at Fleming Cos., national sales manager at Dawn Foods, and director of bakery at Baker's Supermarkets.

Keith A. Frosceno has been promoted from senior category manager/produce to the position of v.p., produce merchandising, and will report directly to Kelley. Frosceno replaces Mark Vanderlinden, who retired earlier this year.

In his new role Frosceno will handle all produce merchandising aspects, including sales, margin, department layout, and promotions for the retailer.

Before joining Price Chopper, Frosceno held the positions of v.p. produce/floral for Bozzuto's and v.p./sales for Supervalu/W. Newell.

Jim Mizeur has been promoted from v.p. of grocery and general merchandise to v.p. of strategic initiatives, a new position, and will report directly to Jerry Golub. Mizeur will head up strategic merchandising initiatives to identify opportunities for sales and profits at the chain.

Before joining Price Chopper in 1986, Mizeur was director of nonperishables for Milgrams.

Jay Ropietski has been promoted to from zone director to regional v.p., a new position, and will report directly to v.p. of store operations David Golub. Ropietski, a Price Chopper employee since 1982, will run overall store operations of 40 Price Chopper stores in New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.

Ropietski has held several operations positions at the grocer.

The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates more than 100 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub employs over 23,000 associates who collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.
