At the outset of the onion season, Progreso Produce is rolling out a line of new onion packaging amid the launch of a new consumer Web site -- www.onionuse.com – that underscores its central goal of educating the consumer at the point-of-purchase.
For over 40 years, Boerne, Texas-based Progreso Produce has made onions the core of its business and is no stranger to innovation, with company executive Dale DeBerry credited as one of the original creators of the “Bloomin’ Onion.”
Through carefully designed new packaging that includes color coding by onion type for ease of identification, Progreso’s new packaging also includes easy-to-read flavor and use indicators. In additional to the use information, each bag features a recipe along with product photography. The new packaging features a colored mesh bag and is available in a variety of weights for all varieties, including sweets, reds, whites and yellow onions.
The company’s new Web site further enhances Progreso’s new packaging by providing more comprehensive information about onions, including giving consumers easy access to information about how to cook them, the different flavors of each variety, frequently asked questions, and a variety of recipes.
