At Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter, VIC card holders who cash their tax stimulus checks will receive 10 percent off their next grocery purchase, the retailer said on its Web site.

The promotion began on May 14 and is available until July 19. Harris Teeter said it will cash VIC cardholders' tax stimulus checks free and reward their loyalty with a 10 percent-off certificate. The certificate can be used on any single grocery purchase (up to $500) within seven days after cashing the stimulus check and must be used with the customer's VIC card.

Shoppers must present their tax stimulus check and a government-issued ID, as well as their valid VIC card.

Other promotions at Harris Teeter designed to help shoppers stretch their dollars include:

-- Every Wednesday shoppers can take advantage of Harris Teeter's weekly specials by checking out the Harris Teeter circular, or by signing up for eVIC, an online tool that notifies shoppers when items they regularly buy are on sale.

-- Harris Teeter initiated a new savings tool for its shoppers in March, called Budget Stretchers. Budget Stretcher items can be found in the Harris Teeter circular and change every Wednesday.
