Meijer, Publix Working with Produce For Kids Group on Outreach

The regional chain and Produce For Kids will host educational events for kids and parents to promote the benefits of consuming fresh produce.

July 14, 2008

Regional supermarket chains Meijer and Publix have teamed up in their respective markets with Produce for Kids to educate kids and parents on the health benefits of eating fresh produce.

Meijer and the advocacy group recently co-hosted a tent booth at six “Park Party” events in Western Michigan this summer in conjunction with local ABC affiliate WOTV-4. The events, which reach an estimated 30,000 children and parents in high-risk urban communities, offer free food, games and educational activities.

The Meijer/PFK tent included recipe Brochures featuring sponsors' products; PFK t-shirts for prizes; PFK bookmarks for giveaways; and sponsor giveaways with product and/or coupons.

Meanwhile, in the Southeast, 115 Publix supermarkets participated in “Produce for Kids Day” on June 14. Staff from the Publix Apron’s program, which is the chain’s culinary program, taught children and parents how to cook fun and healthy recipes with several mini seminar demonstrations using our sponsor's products. The Apron's staff also handed out the PFK Spring Campaign recipe brochures.

Special events were also held at Publix two new GreenWise Market stores in Palm Beach and Boca Raton.

Local media extensively covered the events that included miracle children and representatives from the local Children's Miracle Network hospitals in Florida.
