iPhone App Adds Weekly Circulars From 100-plus Retailers

Nov 4, 2009

Shopper, an iPhone Shopping Assistant from New York-based ReachEverywhere, now offers weekly flyers from more than 100 retailers, including Target, Best Buy, Kmart, Sears, Meijer, Walgreens, Lowes and Home Depot, enabling users to find deals on products without having to flip through printed circulars.

“Our research indicates busy consumers want to quickly pull relevant money-saving specials on what they intend to purchase rather than sift through catalogs of unrelated products from the newspaper and mail every week,” said Sean Flynn, CEO of ReachEverywhere. “This is just another step in our mission to help save shoppers time and money, and we have more coming soon.”

To find the deals, users simply keep their shopping lists, and the application searches local stores for relevant specials. Here’s how it works: the user inputs a ZIP code, and Shopper chooses the five closest stores to the user. It then finds the product detail page of any item on the shopping list, and included on the page will be the local deals for that item. Any special can be saved as a reminder for when the user is in the store.

If a user wants to see a specific store’s specials in his or her hometown, the user can associate the list with that store, and Shopper will make sure it is included in the flyer results.

Among Shopper’s existing features are:

--Real-time list syncing between household members and friends
--Building multiple lists for multiple stores and purposes
--Managing pricing, photos or coupon information for any item on a store-by-store basis
--Nutritional ratings for grocery items from Guiding Stars
--Managing the individual aisle order/layout and pricing of different grocery stores

Last month, Progressive Grocer reported that Guiding Stars Licensing Co. (GSLC) has teamed up with ReachEverywhere’s Shopper, to offer consumers access to its “Guiding Stars” good-better-best rating system.

Against a trying backdrop of persistently weak economic conditions, fierce competition and financially wary shoppers, supermarket produce departments faced much harsher headwinds during the past 12- month period than they have in recent years, as evidenced by marginal comparable-sales gains and a tentative outlook for the balance of the year, according to results of Progressive Grocer's 2009 Annual Produce Operations Review.
