Spartan Stores just finished a $4 million project that has
transformed a Glen’s Market unit in the new format Glen’s Fresh
Marketplace in North Petoskey, Mich.
“Glen’s Fresh Marketplace will be committed to excellence with
superior products that will resonate with people who love good
food,” said Bob Greenman, store director, describing Spartan’s new
prototype. “With a strong emphasis on meats, seafood, wine and deli
offerings, it will be a premier destination store for these
products.”
The fresh foods-focused store will feature The grocer’s first
Starbucks Cafe, along with upgrades including an expanded produce
and floral department; a store-within-a-store Papyrus card shop, a
revamped bakery featuring LaBrea breads; and a full-service deli
offering signature salads, premium deli meats, imported and
domestic cheeses, party trays, and prepared entrees.
Spartan said it will fly in fresh seafood daily, to a full-service
fish counter staffed by experts to help with selections,
seasonings, and cooking directions.
Fresh sushi is yet another highlight of the new store, as is a
full-service meat counter that will cut and package meats per
customer requests. The service meat case features Bell & Evans
all-natural chicken and Angus Star Ranch beef.
The store’s specialty foods aisle features international flavors
and gourmet foods, and a wine area with anextensive variety of
imported and domestic wines, the grocer said.
The assortment is supported by a new Web site,
www.glensfreshmarketplace.com, featuring food and wine pairings,
weekly recipes, weekly email newsletters, the store’s weekly ad,
and more.
A grand opening celebration will offer special savings, demo
sampling, and other fun events, such as sweepstakes, in which
customers can register for a chance to win Corbin Bleu concert
tickets, grilling events, and summer foods and healthy foods
“sample fests,” the company said.
On June 24, Spartan will also celebrate the grand opening of a
newly remodeled D&W Fresh Market in Williamston, Mich.
