Anchor Packaging Readies for $40M Expansion

May 15, 2008

At a time when most plastics processors are curtailing any new investments and preparing for possible recession, Anchor Packaging has launched a major expansion at one of its Arkansas thermoforming facilities. Intended to house eight new state-of-the-art inline machines for processing both polypropylene and PET, the expanded facility will be the largest in Anchor's history.

"In the last 36 months, we have launched 58 new products for the supermarket, foodservice, and processor markets, and they have been met with tremendous acceptance by our customers," said Robert Hermann Jr., Anchor Packaging's chairman. "The innovation and advanced engineering present in these new products has allowed us to reduce our carbon footprint, while still delivering strength and performance at value prices. This has provided our customers unique packaging solutions and enhanced our valuable customer partnerships."

Ground was broken on the eco-friendly project in late April and will be completed mid-October of this year. During the conception and architectural design process, significant emphasis was placed on minimizing environmental impact. A specific "Pollution Prevention Plan," was created and a dedicated onsite engineer appointed to monitor and enforce this plan on a continual basis. In addition, a "green orientation" toward ongoing energy consumption of the new addition was integral to the planning.

High-efficiency fluorescent fixtures replace traditional lighting, mechanisms to minimize storm-water runoff have been implemented, and several design features provide for optimal environmental sustainability.

The facility expansion will create over 120 new jobs and provide a much needed boost to the local economy in Paragould. "This expansion project reflects Anchor Packaging's ongoing commitment to innovation, the environment, community leadership, and workplace excellence," said Jeffrey Wolff, president of the St. Louis-based packaging firm.
