IDDBA Welcomes Industry Luminaries to Board

A number of industry executives have been elected to serve as new members and officers of the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association’s 2009-2010 board of directors.

John Sullivan, president & CEO, Norseland Inc., was elected as the association’s 46th president. An IDDBA officer and board member for seven years, Sullivan succeeds Ray Burke, president of Rich Products Corp.’s In-Store Bakery & Foodservice Division, who continues to serve on the organization’s board.

Other new IDDBA officers for 2009-2010 are EVP Mark Rudy, VP of sales, Hubert Co.; VP Steve Beekhuizen, SVP of sales, Dawn Food Products, Inc.; Treasurer Voni Woods, senior director of deli, Giant Eagle, Inc.

New leaders elected to serve for three-year terms include Dawn Food Product’s Beekhuizen; John Cheesman, regional VP of sales, Maplehurst Bakeries, LLC; Rick Goodman, president/owner, Stillwater Provisions; Bill Klump, VP of marketing, Butterball, LLC; Ed Meyer, VP meat, deli, seafood & prepared foods, Schnuck Markets, Inc.; J.K. Symancyk, EVP of merchandising, Meijer, Inc.; Dotty VanderMolen, director of deli/bakery, Mascari Sales & Marketing; and Giant Eagle’s Voni Woods.

Produce OpsProgressive Grocer's 2009 Produce Operations Review
Against a trying backdrop of persistently weak economic conditions, fierce competition and financially wary shoppers, supermarket produce departments faced much harsher headwinds during the past 12- month period than they have in recent years, as evidenced by marginal comparable-sales gains and a tentative outlook for the balance of the year, according to results of Progressive Grocer's 2009 Annual Produce Operations Review.

Total supermarket sales were $430.3 billion, up $13.2 billion from the $417.2 billion recorded in 2007 -- continuing the trend of slightly higher percentage increases in each of the past five years, according to Progressive Grocer's 62nd Annual Consumer Expenditures Study (CES), now greatly expanded from the eight-page print edition to 35 pages of research.
