Whole Foods Introduces School Kids to Local Produce

Natural/organic grocer Whole Foods Market is working with Portland public schools and conservation organization Ecotrust to introduce schoolchildren to Oregon-grown fruits and vegetables.

As a partner in the "Harvest of the Month" program for the 2008-09 school year, Whole Foods will features Oregon-grown products on school lunch menus twice a month.

The local lineup includes cucumbers, corn on the cob, parsnips, cabbage, potatoes, pears, and radishes. In March, students will taste frozen Oregon berries.

In addition, once a month during the school year, Portland public schools will serve a meal entirely made with local products from Oregon, Washington, and Northern California.
