Stew Leonard's Debuts Naked Pork
July 22, 2008
Northeast grocer Stew Leonard's has rolled out Naked Pork as the
latest addition to its all-natural Naked line, which already
includes chicken, beef, and salmon. As the name implies, Naked
products contain no antibiotics, added hormones or preservatives,
and are also raised and harvested humanely.
"Customers want assurance that the meat, fish, and poultry they buy
for their family has never been given antibiotics or growth
hormones, and is 100 percent vegetarian fed," said c.e.o. Stew
Leonard Jr. "That is why [the] Naked line has been such a hit,
because it is a high-quality, affordable option to organic
meat."
The breed used for Naked Pork is the Duroc pig, known for its
tender texture and distinctive pork flavor as well as its muscular
build and unique red coat.
The pigs are raised in Samson County, N.C. on family farms that
have been involved in pig farming for over a century, according to
Stew Leonard's. The meat is process verified, allowing it to be
traced back to the farm where it was raised.
Naked Pork comes in boneless center-cut pork chops, bone-in
center-cut pork chops, and pork tenderloin.
Family-owned Stew Leonard's operates four stores in Norwalk,
Danbury, and Newington, Conn. and Yonkers, N.Y.
