Wegmans Building 6th Va. Store

Sept 10, 2008

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. has begun construction on what will be its sixth Virginia store at The Village at Leesburg in Leesburg, Va., a mixed-used development that also includes residential, other commercial, and office space.

The 140,000-square foot-location is scheduled to open in November 2009 and will take its place in the 1.2 million-square-foot, vertically integrated, four-story property, along with such major tenants as Coldwater Creek, LA Fitness, Books-A-Million, Eggspectation, Potomac River Running, Neibauer Dental, Crystal Bright Cleaners, and Wachovia Bank.

Additionally, there's a strong commitment from several local and regional retail stores, as well as several premium national specialty retailers, and upscale restaurants new to the area, according to the project's developers, Cypress Equities in Dallas, and Washington, D.C.-metro-area-based Kettler.

Wegmans will count the Leesburg store as its sixth in the state following the rollout of a store in Gainsville slated for November 2008 and one in Fredericksburg in June 2009. Other Virginia stores are in Sterling, Fairfax, and Woodbridge.

The Village at Leesburg will encompass residential, retail, restaurant, and office space. Said Cypress managing director Jeff Coker, "We want to create a sense of place where people can dine, live, work, and shop."

Cypress Equities will develop the retail portion of the project, and Kettler will develop the office and residential components, among them 335 luxury apartments.

Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. operates 71 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia.
