Pittsburgh Shop 'n Save Incentive Gift Card Sales with Double 'Pump Perks' Discounts

Oct 9, 2008

Forty of Pittsburgh's Supervalu-supplied Shop 'n Save independents are rolling out a new program that will offer customers double-fuel incentives when they spend $50 on gift cards.

Shop 'n Save's newly-unveiled gift card program will enable customers to earn 20 cents-off per gallon of gas in Pump Perks for a limited time at participating Sunoco stations by purchasing a variety of retail gift cards.

The promotion marks an aggressive stance by Supervalu's independent Shop 'n Save grocers against the region's dominant market leader, Giant Eagle, which has frequently offered double-discounts for a limited time on its well established fuelperks! discount program.

Giant Eagle first started offering customers the gas-for-groceries fuelperks! discounts in July 2002; the program rewards shoppers with 10-cent-per-gallon discounts on gasoline at its fleet of GetGo convenience stores.

Shop 'n Save is selling the gift cards in denominations of $25, $50 and $100, which can be redeemed at over 100 participating electronic and department stores, family restaurants, entertainment venues and home improvement stores.

The card program is currently available at 40 Shop 'n Save stores, with additional stores to come shortly. Shop 'n Save has more than 70 independently owned and operated supermarkets in western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and West Virginia.
