The off-kilter viewpoint of The Onion, the parody newspaper with a national readership and an online audience of about 7 million monthly, has now been distilled in a new line of cards from Chicago-based Recycled Paper Greetings (RPG). Consisting 12 cards, each with the look of an article torn from a newspaper, the line features such oddball headlines as “Fritolaysia Cuts Off Chiplomatic Relations With Snakistan,” while the insides are blank, enabling senders to compose their own droll messages. Against a trying backdrop of persistently weak economic conditions, fierce competition and financially wary shoppers, supermarket produce departments faced much harsher headwinds during the past 12- month period than they have in recent years, as evidenced by marginal comparable-sales gains and a tentative outlook for the balance of the year, according to results of Progressive Grocer's 2009 Annual Produce Operations Review.
