Garden Variety

Oct 5, 2009

Canadian company Garden Protein International, Inc.’s (GPI) gardein line of healthy, convenient meat-free frozen foods is now available in the United States. Consisting of plant-based proteins, vegetables and grains that are high in protein and low in fat, with no cholesterol, trans fats or saturated fats, gardein contains no animal or dairy ingredients, and is a good source of fiber and iron, as well as a complete protein source. Most of the line’s items are high in fiber, too, according to Vancouver, British Columbia-based GPI. The varieties, which can be prepared on a stovetop or barbecue, or in a microwave, include classic buffalo wings, home style beefless tips and chick’n scallopini. The suggested retail price per package (sizes vary) is $4.99. To learn more, visit www.gardein.com.
