D'Agostino Offering Wi-Fi Shopping at Home

May 8, 2008

D'Agostino Supermarkets has formed a partnership with Stamford, Conn.-based Ikan Technologies, supplier of a Wi-Fi enabled device that enables consumers to create shopping lists at home, send them to preferred stores, and have their orders delivered when they want them.

The Ikan device is kept in the kitchen, near the trash can/recycle bin, and can be mounted beneath a cabinet or on the wall.

The consumer registers his or her Ikan unit at www.ikan.net and creates an account that can be accessed on a computer or mobile device. When a shopper scans empty containers with Ikan, the replacement product is automatically added to a virtual shopping list available online through the shopper's Ikan account. At the same time, Ikan tells the consumer how best to recycle the used container. Ordering groceries takes less than 15 minutes a week, according to Ikan.

When the list is completed, the customer submits it to a D'Agostino store, and the grocer delivers the order within three hours.

D'Agostino said it will demonstrate the Ikan system at all of its locations between May 9 and May 19.

Larchmont, N.Y.-based D'Agostino Supermarkets operates 18 stores: 15 in Manhattan and three in Chappaqua, Cross River, and Rye Brook in Westchester County, N.Y.
