John Penn

Brookshire Grocery Co. has promoted the following executives: John Penn to SVP-retail projects, Pete Leung to SVP-Brookshire’s Food Store operations, Mike Terry to SVP of Super 1 Foods operations, Russ Cooper to SVP-general counsel, secretary, Trent Brookshire to VP-District 10 manager, and Linda Wiggins to VP-sales events.

In his new role, Penn, formerly SVP-Brookshire’s Food Store operations, will oversee the company’s upcoming retail efficiency study, one of the largest projects BGC has undertaken. A 43-year employee Penn worked his way up from stocker to district manager, eventually becoming VP in 1998 and SVP in 1999.

Leung, formerly senior VP-Super 1 Foods operations, will succeed Penn as SVP-Brookshire’s Food Store operations. Leung is a 33-year employee who started out as a courtesy clerk and rose to director of perishable operations. He became VP in 2002 and SVP in 2007.

Terry succeeds Leung as SVP of Super 1 Foods operations. A 21-year employee, he has held such positions as store director and district manager. Nearly all of Terry’s time at the company has been with its Super 1 Foods division.

Before his recent appointment, Cooper was VP-general counsel, secretary for the past two years. The 13-year employee worked as an attorney for over 20 years before joining BGC.

After completing BGC’s management training program and working in different areas of the company, Brookshire became a store director in January 2008.

Wiggins is a 35-year employee whose most recent position was VP-deli/bakery operations. She joined the grocer in 1974 as a market meat wrapper in Greenville, Texas, and later held such positions as assistant market manager, deli manager, deli merchandiser, deli supervisor, director of deli/bakery sales and VP of deli/bakery sales.

Tyler, Texas-based BGC operates 156 stores in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, as well as three distribution centers and seven manufacturing facilities.
