SFM Completes Bruno’s Conversion Process
July 1, 2009
Southern Family Markets (SFM) has completed the 29-day conversion
process for the 31 Bruno’s and Food World stores that it bought
from bankrupt Birmingham, Ala.-based Bruno’s earlier this year,
according to published reports.
Today’s store re-openings include Food World locations in Hueytown,
Alabaster and Mobile, Ala., while the Bruno’s at Riverchase Village
re-opened yesterday morning, SFM SVP and general manager Jeff
Burkhead told the Birmingham Business Journal.
The conversion involved counting and stocking inventory, cleaning
the stores, and lowering prices on more than 6,000 prices. Sales at
converted stores that have already reopened are good, Burkhead
said.
As part of Birmingham-based SFM’s purchase of the stores, 25 stores
in Alabama and Florida were liquidated and closed.
