Winn-Dixie Opens Multi-million Dollar Remodel in Jacksonville

Part of a chain-wide remodeling program, the store gained more than 2,400 square feet in the revamp, as Winn-Dixie sets its sights on downtown food shoppers.

July 9, 2008

Winn-Dixie executives today are celebrating the grand reopening of a remodeled store at 777 Market Street in downtown Jacksonville, Fla., the culmination of a multi-million dollar project intended to court a growing downtown community with a “vibrant new look and easy-to-navigate layout,” the company said.

The project, which began last summer, is part of a chain-wide program.

Winn-Dixie said it added more than 2,400 square feet to the store to greatly expanding product offerings and services.

“This is just one more way for us to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to our hometown,” added Peter Lynch, president, c.e.o., and chairman of the board for Winn-Dixie.

Winn-Dixie said it expanded selections in produce, floral, seafood, wine, and dairy departments, and created a larger full-service pharmacy as well.

The deli area features a custom sandwich and sub shop, along with a wing bar where shoppers have their choice of several flavors of freshly prepared chicken wings and dipping sauces.

The new storefront features a modern glass-and-painted-brick façade, and decorative fencing, new lighting, and landscaping complement the store’s exterior, according to the company.

During the renovation, the chain also allocated space for a police stop station, a place for officers to file paperwork, speak with residents, and make phone calls.
`
Winn-Dixie operates 521 retail grocery stores, 400 of them with in-store pharmacies, in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, and Mississippi.
