34 Utah Supervalu-owned Albertsons Stores now Fresh Markets

Nov 4, 2009

Thirty-four Supervalu-owned Albertsons stores that were purchased by Associated Foods have re-opened yesterday following a weekend rebranding to Fresh Market and a restocking of the stores with the new owner’s branded products.

According to the Salt Lake City Tribune, the new stores will offer bargains via large-volume and local buying, but unlike the Albertsons stores, they won’t offer loyalty cards or double-coupon days.

Most of Albertsons 2,700 Utah employees have been hired by Associated Foods, and additional job openings will be available as the stores grow sales. Minneapolis-based Supervalu will keep three Albertsons stores open in the St. George area, and four stores in West Jordan and Orem are up for sale, the report said.

Associated Foods, headquartered in Salt Lake City, supplies more than 500 independent grocery stores throughout seven Intermountain states.
