FreshDirect At The Office, the B2B division of online grocer FreshDirect, is introducing "Smart Eating at the Office," a program to bring healthy eating options to the workplace.

The online grocer said last week it has joined forces with IAC, a New York-based Internet company with over 35 consumer brands in 40 countries, to roll out the program this winter.

Smart Eating at the Office includes on-site nutritional seminars, recommended meal and snack lists, intranet postings, and the introduction of an on-site FreshDirect vending machine offering what the company said is sensibly portioned, low-calorie, fresh 4-Minute Meals consisting of proteins, fresh vegetables, and grains. The meals are offered under the Smart & Simple and EatingWell lines, in addition to selection created by chefs Floyd Cardoz of Tabla and Terrance Brennan of Artisanal and Picholine. Employees can purchase the meals with a credit card, and an e-receipt program will launch in the near future.

The initiative, under the guidance of FreshDirect's registered dietitian, Eileen Vider, aims to help workers improve their health and productivity by making better food choices.

"Eating at the office can be a real challenge for employees who are looking to eat healthy," noted Vider. "Limited nutritious options, meetings with unhealthy food, office celebrations, and mindless snacking throughout the day are all common office eating pitfalls. Smart Eating at the Office provides solutions to these pitfalls by giving employees the necessary tools to make healthier food decisions and by making nutritious food readily available."

"IAC is always seeking innovative services for our employees and we've emphasized access to healthy food as a core part of our workplace culture," said IAC chief administrative officer Jason Stewart. "The nutritional guidance provided by Ms. Vider aids in the work/life balance we target. Our teams often spend long hours on projects and will enjoy a quick and easy solution that they can trust is healthy."

Long Island City, N.Y.-based FreshDirect at the Office serves most of Manhattan and locations in Jersey City.
