Stater Bros. Offers Free Antibiotics

Sept 30, 2009

Regional independent Stater Bros. Supermarkets yesterday began offering a free 14-day supply of selected antibiotics, including refills, to anyone with or without health insurance coverage who presents a prescription at its Super Rx Pharmacies.

Eight classes of antibiotics are available: Amoxil (Generic for Amoxil), Ampicillin, Ciprofloxacin (Generic for Cipro), Doxycycline, Erythromycin, Penicillin, Trimeth/Sulfa (Generic for Septra or Bactrim) and Tetracycline.

“Stater Bros. realizes that the current economic environment, coupled with climbing health insurance rates, [has] made access to crucial medication difficult for many of our customers,” said Jack H. Brown, Stater Bros. chairman and CEO. “As the only supermarket chain in Southern California to offer this program free of charge, Stater Bros. is doing all that we can to ensure accessible and affordable health care to our valued customers.”

Stater Bros. is also running a $4 generic prescription program, in which more than 300 commonly prescribed medications are $4 for a 30-day supply or $10 for a 90-day supply.

San Bernardino, Calif.-based Stater Bros. operates 167 Supermarkets in Southern California.
