Grocers Take Part in Amex 'Spring Fling'

May 15, 2008

Supermarkets are among those participating in an American Express in-store promotion allowing shoppers to receive a free Spring Fling Card worth $25 from American Express Incentive Services when they buy two American Express Gift Cards of any value at select retailers through June 30.

The American Express Spring Fling Card can be redeemed for three months after the date of issue at the U.S. locations of entertainment retailers Best Buy, Borders, Fandango, and SpaFinder.

Retailers taking part in the Spring Fling promotion, which launched yesterday, include CVS, Walgreens, Safeway, Kroger, Rite Aid, Ahold, Albertsons/Supervalu, A&P, Wawa, Winn-Dixie, Longs Drugs, Stater Brothers, Pathmark, Shop Rite/Wakefern, Bi-Lo, Wegmans, AAFES, King Kullen, Kings, Quick Chek, Price Chopper, Raley's, Lowes, Harmons, Bashas', and Big Y.

"With Mother's Day, Father's Day and graduation season coming up, shoppers are going to be running fast to keep up with gift giving needs," noted Stefan Happ, general manager, American Express Gift Cards. "With our Spring Fling Card, we are offering American Express Gift Card customers something extra for them -- little escapes like a Spa day, favorite film or favorite book."

Shoppers who purchase any two American Express Gift Cards or themed Gift Cards, including Gift Cards Especially for Kids, Teens, Birthdays, Dining, Movie Lovers, and the Bride and Groom, at participating retailers can fill out a rebate form found at the in-store display and mail it in. All rebate forms must be received by July 22, with a limit of two Spring Fling Cards per household.

Consumers can buy the American Express Gift Card nationwide at thousands of drug stores and supermarkets in denominations ranging from $25 to $100. The gift card is accepted at U.S. retailers and restaurants where American Express Cards are welcome.

New York-based American Express Company is a diversified worldwide travel, financial, and network services company.
