For the seventh consecutive year, Publix has been honored as one of IDG’s Computerworld top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals, ranking No. 68 on this year’s list and remaining the only supermarket chain to be recognized.
In addition, Publix ranks No. 39 for companies with 10,000 or more associates. This honor is part of the weekly IT publication’s 18th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, published in the June 20 issue of Computerworld and online at www.computerworld.com.
“We are honored by this recognition primarily because the rankings are influenced by direct feedback from our associates,” said Maria Brous, director of media and community relations for Publix. “We truly appreciate the contributions our IT associates make every day by ensuring our systems are available to support our customers and by developing strategic solutions to strengthen our competitive position.”
The Best Places to Work in IT list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals compiled by IDG’s Computerworld. The lists are compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
"To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it's not enough to seek out and hire the most talented IT professionals, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Smart IT people realize that they need to get up to speed on their employer's revenue opportunities. The organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list are creating a work environment that both trains and encourages IT personnel to pursue business-driven priorities."
Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix operates 1,036 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. It has been named one of FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For in America” for 14 consecutive years.
