Publix Implements Workforce Optimization Suite

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Regional grocer Publix Super Markets here is implementing workforce optimization technology to better manage its labor planning and scheduling.

The chain will roll out the BlueCube Workforce Optimization suite, from Milwaukee-based RedPrairie Corp., at approximately 900 locations, according to RedPrairie. The solution features time and attendance, business forecasting, labor demand planning, automated optimized scheduling, associate self service, dashboards with configurable alerts, and computer-based training.

The BlueCube Enterprise scheduling engine uses engineered labor standards along with historical sales, traffic patterns, special events, fixed tasks, and other items such as cases and pharmacy prescriptions to provide an accurate view of labor required to meet customer and task-driven demand throughout the entire store. Employee roles, availability, and preferences are automatically aligned with labor demand to produce fully optimized work schedules that are then tracked against the system's time and attendance tools.
