Publix Super Markets, Inc. said on Friday it has signed with the Tennessee State Soccer Association (TSSA), sealing the deal for the retailer’s fifth youth soccer partnership to date.
In addition to the TSSA, Publix is the official supermarket of Youth Soccer Associations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
The Lakeland, Fla.-based retailer, which operates stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee, said it sees such sponsorships as a way to help tackle childhood obesity.
"With childhood obesity on the rise, it's even more important today that we encourage exercising and eating right with parents and kids," said Maria Brous, Publix director of media and community relations, in a statement. "We're excited to work with TSSA because youth soccer keeps kids active and gives them skills they can use throughout their lives."
As with the other associations, the Publix partnership with the TSSA will include sponsorship of soccer events and community awards.
