Quick Chek Holds First Soup Recipe Contest

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- Quick Chek, a family-operated chain of over 100 convenience store locations in New Jersey and southern New York, yesterday launched its first Quick Chek Souper Chef Cooking Contest, giving customers the chance to submit an original recipe incorporating one of the company's 14 Fall Menu Soups. The contest runs through Dec. 5.

Three individuals from the Center for Food Development and Manufacturing Technology at the School for Environmental and Biological Science of Rutgers University - manager Linda Gavin, quality assurance specialist Elizabeth Purcelly, and senior associate Stan Cajigas -- along with chef Michael Hampson from the H. J. Heinz Co., a Quick Chek partner organization, will judge each submission according to innovation and originality.

Five finalists will compete in Quick Chek's Souper Chef Cook-off at a Quick Chek in South Plainfield, N.J., on Saturday, Dec. 15, from noon to 2:00 p.m., where dishes will be presented, tasted, and evaluated.

Quick Chek's Fall Menu Soup collection, which varies daily, consists of Chicken Noodle Galore, Gram's Pasta Fagioli, Pot Roast Vegetable, Split Pea with Ham, Classic Bistro French Onion, Mushroom with Brie Bisque, Macaroni and Cheese, Macaroni and Beef, Home Style Chicken with Wild Rice, Roasted Tomato and Garlic, Spicy Chili, Baja Chicken Enchilada, Chicken Pot Pie, and Creamy Cheddar Broccoli

Quick Chek's retail locations feature a fresh coffee and fresh food program, and include 12 pharmacy stores and 13 locations with fuel.
