Carl Buddig & Co. and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the nation’s largest children’s literacy nonprofit, have embarked on a tour of read-aloud events and book giveaways as part of the national “Be A Reader” campaign. Through the partnership, the Homewood, Ill.-based lunchmeat brand is donating $100,000 to RIF in support of children’s literacy programs across the United States.
The tour will visit San Diego, Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Atlanta and Washington.
“As a family owned company, we are committed to supporting causes that celebrate family values,” explained Tom Buddig, EVP marketing at Carl Buddig & Co. “Our partnership with RIF gives underserved children access to good books and lays the foundation for future learning while promoting an everyday interest in reading.”
“RIF’s partnership with Carl Buddig & Company will provide many children at risk of educational failure with critical access to books so they can read and achieve this school year and beyond,” added Carol H. Rasco, president and CEO of Washington-based RIF.
Running through May 2012, the Be A Reader campaign encourages families to enjoy reading time together through activities, special promotions, and community outreach. Through Oct. 30, families can also take part in the Sandwich And A Story Sweepstakes, at Buddig.com/SandwichAndAStory, for the chance to win a Scholastic book library and a Buddig backpack crammed with school supplies.
