Acme Markets Employees Okay Contract
MALVERN, Pa. -- Grocery store workers at Acme Markets, based here, voted last week to ratify a three-year contract giving them a $1.10-per-hour increase in pay over its term. The employees had been working under an extension of their last contract, which expired in early February.
The workers approved the contract by a 14-to-1 margin at a meeting at union headquarters in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
The contract, which covers 4,500 associates in 42 stores in southeastern Pennsylvania, additionally "protects health and welfare benefits, pension rights, holiday benefits and working conditions at no cost to our members," said United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 president Wendell W. Young IV in a statement.
Acme is a wholly owned subsidiary of Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons, which acquired it in 2000.
