Activist in Wegmans Egg Farm Case Receives Mixed Verdict

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- An animal-rights activist on trial breaking into a chicken farm owned by Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. here received a mixed verdict yesterday, according to a report by a local television station.

Adam Durand allegedly broke into the farm, in Wolcott, N.Y., to document with a videocamera the reportedly inhumane treatment endured by the chickens there. He was found guilty of trespassing, but was acquitted of burglary and petit larceny. Durand faces sentencing on May 16.

"We are very glad that this chapter in a nearly two-year saga has ended," Wegmans noted in a statement.
