Albertsons Gets New C.M.O.

BOISE, Idaho - Albertsons, Inc. said yesterday that Paul T. Gannon has been named chief marketing officer, effective immediately. Gannon most recently served as president and c.e.o. of the company's Shaw's division, based in East Bridgewater, Mass. Albertsons acquired Shaw's in April 2004.

A 14-year grocery industry veteran, Gannon joined Shaw's in 1990. During his career there, he served in several senior leadership roles, including v.p. of information technology, s.v.p. of finance, e.v.p. of marketing, and c.o.o., president, and c.e.o.

Albertsons chairman, c.e.o., and president Larry Johnston said in a statement: "Paul Gannon is one of the most talented and creative senior executives I have ever had the pleasure of working with. His leadership at Shaw's has resulted in major advances in nearly every facet of the company. We are thrilled that he has accepted this exciting role and will join our senior leadership team to help continue the transformation at Albertsons. Paul's track record is well known throughout the industry as he has helped the team at Shaw's grow market share, integrate key acquisitions, and become a leader in loyalty, brand, and neighborhood marketing."

In his new role Gannon will be responsible for all Albertsons marketing functions across all banners in both food and drug, including consumer research, e-business, price/promotion/assortment strategy, brand management, advertising, and format development, among others.

Before joining Shaw's, Gannon served in leadership roles at both Hills Department Stores and Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). He and his family will relocate from New England to Boise.
