Albertson's Inc. to Debut Combination Store in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - Albertson's Inc. announced today it will open its first combination store format under the Albertson's/Osco banner in Omaha on Wednesday.

The combination format of grocery and drug stores was first introduced by Albertson's Chicago subsidiary, Jewel-Osco. In November, the company expanded the combination format to its stores in Tucson, Ariz. and Reno, Nev.

"The introduction of this new store format in the Omaha market is long overdo and demonstrates Albertson's commitment to gaining market share," said David Jerry, Albertson's Great Plains division vice president. "Unlike any other industry operator, Albertson's has solid, well-established reputations for both food stores and drugstores. This combination enhances the shopping experience by providing two stores under one roof."

In celebration of the new store format introduction, Albertson's will donate a truckload of food -- approximately 40,000 pounds -- to the Omaha Food Bank. The Omaha Home for Boys and Adams Elementary will also both receive $500 gifts from the Company.

The Albertson's/Osco format doubles the general merchandise product selection while maintaining the store's food product variety. The new store features a drive-through pharmacy, one-hour photo, seasonal products, and an expanded cosmetics and beauty care department featuring a cosmetician.

Albertson's/Osco store management responsibility is shared by a store director and a drug store manager. The new store is open from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. This will be the tenth Albertson's store location serving Omaha. Eleven Osco Drug stores also currently serve the community.
