Albertson's Names President to Rocky Mountain Division, Plans to 'Aggressively Invest' There

DENVER - Albertson's Inc. on Thursday announced the appointment of Judy Spires as president of its Rocky Mountain division, effective June 3, 2002. In this role Judy will have profit and loss responsibility for the multi-billion dollar division, which encompasses Colorado, South Dakota and parts of Wyoming and Nebraska, and employs nearly 5,000 associates.

"Judy was selected for this important leadership role because of her extensive marketing and operations experience coupled with an outstanding track record of building sales, profits and customer loyalty," said Peter Lynch, Albertson's president and COO.

Romeo Cefalo, executive vice president of operations, added that the company plans to aggressively invest and grow its business in the Rocky Mountain division.

Spires joined Acme Markets in 1970 and served in roles of increasing responsibility within retail operations. In 1994, she was named vice president of administration and later that year, was named vice president, human resources. She became vice president of operations in 1995, and four years later, was promoted to the position of senior vice president, marketing.

Spires has served in numerous community leadership positions in the Philadelphia area, including the Board or Directors of the Delaware Food Bank, the Philadelphia Food Trade Organization, where she was a member and the 2002 Honoree of the Year, and the Philadelphia Chapter of the Executive Women's Organization.
