Annie Chun’s Rolls Out Burger Contest With ‘Seoul’

To position its latest product, GoChuJang Korean Sweet & Spicy Sauce, as a flavorful alternative to traditional toppings like ketchup, Annie Chun’s, Inc. is offering consumers the chance to win a trip for two to Seoul, South Korea, by submitting a burger recipe including the fiery condiment to the pan-Asian food purveyor’s Spicy Korean Burger Contest at www.MyGoChuJang.com by Sept. 30, 2010.

A Korean mainstay since the introduction of hot peppers from Japan in the middle of the Joseon Dysnasty (1392-1910), GoChuJang sauce is made with a specially aged soy bean base and then mixed with chili pepper paste for a unique blend of savory, spicy, and sweet flavors. Annie Chun’s all-natural version features a special Korean miso and chili pepper paste concoction for what the company deems the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. Besides Asian dishes and, of course, burgers, the sauce also peps up such familiar Western fare as spaghetti and meatloaf, and can also serve as a marinade, dip or cooking sauce.

“With such a bold taste, sauce aficionados from all cultures will be pleased to find that Annie Chun’s GoChuJang adds the perfect balance of flavor and kick to any meal,” said Diana Wang, director of marketing for San Rafael, Calif.-based Annie Chun’s. “We want to challenge burger lovers to use the complex and well-rounded flavor of GoChuJang in their own burger recipe for a chance to win a trip to the sauce’s originating country.”

Once all of the recipe submissions are in, a team of judges will select the top 16 entries. One grand-prize winner will receive a five-day, four-night trip for two to Seoul, including hotel accommodations, airfare, and a one-day guided culinary tour. Recipes from the other 15 finalists will appear online, and the public will vote to select the top five. The five finalists whose recipes are chosen will receive a gift basket of Annie Chun’s products.
