A&P Canada Co., UFCW Pact Ratified

ETOBICOKE, ON, Can. -- A&P Canada Co., a subsidiary of Metro Inc., here said members of UFCW Locals 175 and 633 ratified a new three-year collective agreement with the chain that applies to 78 A&P, Dominion and Ultra Food & Drug stores and over 10,000 employees in Ontario.

"We have been meeting with the UFCW with the interests of both our employees and the future of our business at the heart of the negotiations," said Alain Brisebois, e.v.p., A&P Canada Co. "This new contract offers competitive wage increases for our employees and more importantly, provides us with new operational flexibility and cost reduction opportunities allowing the Company to respond to increased competitive pressure from non-union retail stores. The agreement also allows the Company to convert additional stores to a more cost efficient contract.

Continued, Brisebois, "Both parties worked very hard to reach a fair and reasonable agreement for our employees while at the same time positioning us to be competitive in our market. The positive outcome of the negotiations allows us to focus on ensuring the long-term success of our company."

A&P Canada Co., a subsidiary of Metro Inc. operates more than 275 grocery stores under the A&P, Dominion, Ultra Food & Drug, The Barn, Loeb and Food Basics banners throughout Ontario.

Metro Inc. has annual sales approaching $11 billion, from a network of close to 600 food stores under the Metro, Metro Plus, Super C, A&P, Dominion, Loeb, and Food Basics banners as well as more than 250 pharmacies under the Brunet, Clini-Plus, The Pharmacy and Drug Basics banners.
