Aussie Supermarket Launches "Cereal Dating" Singles' Nights

SYDNEY -- An upscale Sydney shopping center launched a "cereal dating" night at its supermarket for Valentine's Day.

Management at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in Sydney's eastern suburbs suggested singles cruise the supermarket aisles with message-sending breakfast cereal boxes perched on their carts.

"Choosing the correct cereal is crucial, with different cereals attracting different mates," the Westfield management said.

For instance, while boxes of Fruit Loops signal a "quirky, outrageous type that lives life on the edge," All Bran or Mini Wheats attract "dependable, regular, conservative types," the company said. A variety pack is perfect for those who are indecisive or open-minded.

A 2004 census found that 50.2 percent of Sydney's women and 40 percent of men have never married, according to press reports.
