BI-LO Donates to USO

MAULDIN, S.C. -- BI-LO supermarkets here, a division of Ahold USA, is joining with the USO to show support of American troops with a program called Operation Goodie Bag.

Beginning March 30 and running through April 29, Operation Goodie Bag will allow BI-LO customers and associates to assist the USO in gathering simple, basic supplies for our troops. Items in need include notepaper, hard candy, toothpaste, disposable cameras, and postage stamps. Every BI-LO store will have a list available and a collection bin for donated items. Customers can also feel free to write a note to the troops and include it with their donation. BI-LO is providing clear, sealable plastic bags for the notes and supplies.

Monetary donations are also being accepted at the cash registers. A $1.00 tax-free donation can be made by scanning an Operation Good Bag card. The cards, with the names of the donors, will then be displayed in the store.

"Every day as we go about our daily routines we enjoy the freedom that has been fought for and won by the members of our military," said Dean Cohagan, BI-LO's president and c.e.o. "That freedom, and the men and women who defend it, should never be taken for granted. We have literally hundreds of thousands of troops around the world who dedicate themselves to us and it's time to give something back to them," he said.
